Fusing is an ancient technique used to permanently connect precious metals, in this case, fine (pure) silver wire. Cleaner, faster, and less toxic than soldering, fusing involves the use of a hand torch. Leslie Perrino will show you how to fuse fine silver wire into loops that can then be made into earrings complete with earwires. Once you master the techniques, you will have time to make more earrings. No experience required, this workshop is suitable for complete beginners or those looking to expand their jewelry-making skills. All materials and tools supplied. You are welcome to bring beads to add to your earrings.

Bring a bag lunch and beverages.

Leslie Perrino is an artist and "art evangelist" who loves to share the power of art and creativity with people, particularly in her beloved areas of metals and enameling. Her artwork is a quirky mix of traditional and found objects, most recently combining computer/electrical components with enamels. She is a charismatic and effective teacher who encourages skill building and exploration of the medium.

We will make a final decision about running each moon walk after checking the forecast on the morning of the walk. High winds, extreme temperatures, and precipitation beyond a light drizzle will lead to the cancellation of a walk. If we cancel a walk due to weather conditions, you will receive a full refund.

Come walk Lynden's grounds with art educator and naturalist Claudia Orjuela, who will introduce you to the mysteries and unique features of outdoor life after dark. Discover the sights and sounds of the night in Lynden’s back acres and observe our monumental sculptures beneath the light of the moon. A bonfire and treats await at the end.

Join the Land Managers of the Lynden Sculpture Garden on a walk around the grounds to discover Lynden’s urban forest. On this walk we will discuss the various trees and shrubs that make up the forest, urban forest management techniques, and our exciting new tree inventory project which we are conducting with the assistance of a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Grant. This tree inventory will result in a management plan to help care for our valuable urban forest far into the future.

About the Land Managers

Kyle Welna has been with Lynden for five years and enjoys the wide variety of interconnected projects at the sculpture garden. He is interested in invasive species control and is currently a graduate student at UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences.

Robert Kaleta is wrapping up his third year at the Lynden Sculpture Garden. He is very interested in restoration ecology, native plants, and edible wild plants, and in bringing these interests to the landscape at Lynden.

Do you bonsai......or want to bonsai? Join the Milwaukee Bonsai Society members for a beginner class. We will teach you how to design a bonsai tree and how to keep it alive. At the end of the workshop, you will take home a tree, a bonsai pot, and a one-year membership to the club.

Open Kitchen (OK) debuts OK*mmmm (*milwaukee masa mole mill), an experimental traveling wet mill installation designed to process culturally significant ingredients and recipes in two acts. The first act mills Wisconsin-grown varieties of nixtamalized corn into fresh tortillas. The second act harvests locally grown ingredients from OK’s Riverwest garden, the Lynden’s Cultural Garden, the gardens of neighbors, and farmers markets, all of which will compose a mole sauce. Together, the two acts propose a framework for investigating and critiquing a range of conflicts in our local foodways. For this program, Rudy and Alyx will mill the corn and mole paste, make and cook tortillas, and talk about their food work. Chatting encouraged! Samples will be served at the end.

About Open Kitchen
Open Kitchen (OK) is a Milwaukee-based art collective founded in 2017. OK stages events, installations, and a residency program that engages the public in critical cross-cultural conversations on food, identity, and ecology. Each of the programs takes shape through regional and seasonal food-related research projects, gastronomic gatherings, interdisciplinary collaborations, and site-specific happenings. In early 2022, Open Kitchen became stewards of Lynden’s Cultural Garden, a space that reflects Lynden’s work with refugee and displaced communities. As stewards of the garden, OK will produce a field guide to amateur gardening, drawing on a year’s worth of planning, preparing, and maintaining a sustainable food ecology.

Release: The Fire
Join artist-in-residence Jenna Knapp and collaborator Sevan Arabajian for the final sound bath and labyrinth walk of the season, this one in the energy of the new moon. Like a prairie after an annual burn, we are invited to see potential in the release and the blank slate that the new moon provides. Use this energy to release and imagine what needs to be rebirthed through the ash. Take some time out of your week to relax into a healing sound bath and identify what needs to be cleansed in the flame. Then, channel your intention into the candle for a sunset candle walk through the labyrinth.

Sound baths are an ancient form of healing and deep meditation; they include various ambient sounds playing in a space where you can hear and feel their vibrations. Your sound healer for the evening will be Milwaukee’s own Sevan Arabajian, initiated by Akhilanka of the Temple of Singing Bowls in Mysore, India, when he was traveling in the U.S.

The sound bath lasts approximately 45-60 minutes. We recommend arriving 15 minutes ahead of time to give yourself time to set up and prepare. Please bring something to rest on and to cover yourself with (if you think you’ll want that) for the duration, and dress appropriately for the weather. The sound bath takes place on a hill so please consider comfortable footwear as well. A little insect repellent may be in order, too. Candles are provided and you are invited to bring your own.
