We’re welcoming back former Whittlers campers—and other young people (ages 12 and up) with some prior carving experience—for a day of green wood carving at Lynden. Whittlers: Young Adult Carving Workshop

Guided by Lynden educator Jeremy Stepien, the workshop draws on the traditions of Sloyd—a Scandinavian approach to handcraft that emphasizes learning-through-making. Sloyd workshops develop skills, build confidence, and emphasize care for materials. Participants will practice safe knife techniques, explore the properties of green wood, and experience the satisfaction of shaping a useful object by hand.

Former Whittlers are encouraged to bring the carving knives they made in camp. The day includes time outdoors, a lunch break, and opportunities to share stories from past camps and new carving experiences. All other tools and materials are provided.
