Music in the Gallery: I Cellisti

I Cellisti, the top student ensemble of the Cello Institute of Milwaukee, offers a wide ranging program of solo and ensemble works by Popper, Dvorak, Debussy, Faure, Bach, Mendelssohn, and Morricone. Formed in 1998 at the String Academy of Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee by Scott Cook, I Cellisti have earned regional and national renown for its rich sound, virtuosity and varied repertoire. The group of eight cellists is comprised of students of the Cello Institute of Milwaukee who range in age from nine to eighteen. Many former members have gone on to pursue music careers at the finest music schools, universities and conservatories in the country. The current members represent seven different school districts from throughout Wisconsin and are the principal cellists of their school orchestras, the Milwaukee Youth Symphony and Midwest Young Artists (Chicago). I Cellisti have been the featured ensemble at the Florida Cello Festival at the University of Miami and at the American string Teacher's Association Expo. They have performed on Wisconsin Public Radio and for the Civic Music Association off Milwaukee and many times on the Music and More series in Racine. Christian Morzinski, Hannah Kasun, Samuel Lee, Matthew Udry, Lauren Simmons, Amelia Zitoun, Bradley Nowacek and Stephen Koch are the current members of I Cellisti.
