Join Jeremy Stepien for a day of traditional green woodworking as we make shrink pots—wooden containers with roots in the craft traditions of northern Europe, especially Scandinavia, the British Isles, and parts of Eastern Europe. These vessels use the natural shrinking properties of freshly cut wood to lock a wooden base securely in place. Traditionally used for storing tea, salt, sewing supplies, and other everyday treasures, shrink pots are both practical and beautiful.
Using hand tools and simple carving techniques, you'll hollow, shape, and assemble your own functional vessel. No previous carving experience is required, and you'll leave with a completed shrink pot ready to dry and become a one-of-a-kind container to give as a gift or use in your home.
Bring a friend and enjoy a day of carving, conversation, and creativity. Suitable for ages 16 and up.
