The Secret Life of Artists: Cultivating an Artistic Practice

Sunday, October 23, 2011 - 10:00 am-4:00 pm

A Workshop with Thea Kovac

Fee: $75/ $65 members

Registration: Space is limited; advance registration required. To register click here. You will receive additional information once you register.

What does an artist experience before and after completing a work of art?

Together we will explore the workings of an artistic practice as well as ways to keep it alive. Through lecture, discussion and playful exercises, we will analyze the cyclic nature of the creative process, matching specific attitudes and activities to their predictable seasons. We will discover how to cultivate a fertile imagination, work through “blocks,” build internal and external support systems for our artistic efforts, and integrate creative work into the demands of daily life. Active, inactive, and aspiring visual artists, writers, and performing artists are welcome, as well as those who are curious about human creativity. No artistic experience required.

Come equipped with a notebook or paper for taking notes, a writing instrument, and a set of 6 colored markers. Also bring a bag lunch and beverages and dress for the outdoors—we’ll be making use of Lynden’s 40 beautiful acres.
