Light Up the Garden
Sunday, January 16, 2011
3-6 pm

What better way to experience the Lynden Sculpture Garden in winter than by lantern light? Drop in on Sunday, January 16, 2011 between 3 and 6 pm to make a lantern (or bring your own), and then join us for a lantern-lit walk, hot cider and cookies.

The art studio will be open from 3 pm on for a drop-in lantern-making workshop. Visitors of all ages will enjoy designing and decorating lanterns made from recycled jars and tea light candles. Embellishments include tissue paper collage, punched-tin lids, and reeds and wires for handles. Make your own or work together to create a lantern for your group. The walk will begin as the sun sets at 4:42 pm. Lynden will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm, so stop by early to see the exhibition of Pop prints in the gallery and a new selection of works from the Bradley Family Foundation collection throughout the first floor of the house.

Winter View: Ice Skating at Lynden
Sunday, January 23, 2011
(Weather permitting)
Noon-5 pm

Glide into winter at the Lynden Sculpture Garden. Bring your skates and take a spin around the ice—how often do you get to view the Clement Meadmores or the beeches and elms, dramatically leafless at this time of year, from the middle of the lake? You must bring your own skates, but we will provide the hot beverages inside when you’re ready to warm up.

On View in the Gallery
January 9-February 16, 2011
Pop Prints from the Bradley Family Collection

As a collector, Peg Bradley embraced Pop Art, particularly the prints of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist. A selection of Pop works on paper will be on view in the gallery, and many new works will be on display on the first floor of the house. Some—a large painting by Peter Max, silkscreens by Biasi & Landi and small sculptures by Vasa—shed light on the Pop era; others—a charming Milton Avery drawing of croquet players, a beach scene by American Impressionist Edward Henry Potthast—demonstrate Peg Bradley’s affection for bright yet intimate works.

COMING IN FEBRUARY

Winter Carnival
Saturday, February 26, 2011
10 am-4 pm

Lynden welcomes winter with a day of outdoor art-making (under the direction of artist and Green Gallery proprietor John Riepenhoff), drop-in studio projects (make finger puppets from recycled gloves, prints from animal tracks in the snow, and candles using the old fashioned dip method), tours, tree-walks and more. Watch or participate on foot, skis or snowshoes (bring your own). Family passes available.

Inside/Outside: Shana McCaw + Brent Budsberg
February 26-April 10, 2011
Opening: Saturday, February 26, 4:30-6:30 pm

The Winter Carnival will conclude with the opening of an exhibition of work by Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg. In the gallery McCaw and Budsberg exploit the photographic medium to create the illusion that their images depict the charred remains of real buildings, but subtle clues—scale conflicts, odd or impossible viewpoints—point to their fictional origin. Outside, they will crown a day of work digging the (scaled-down) outline of a foundation in the ground by filling it with charcoal and setting it alight. The opening is free and open to the public.
