Join Arianne King Comer at the dyeing vat as she relates the history of indigo and teaches different resist-dyeing methods, particularly traditional batik, adire (Yoruba), and shibori (Japanese) techniques of designing on cloth.

We began working with artist and indigo advocate King Comer in 2017. Her annual residency, IBILE! Ancestral Call in Cloth, went virtual during the pandemic, but now she is back at Lynden and her outdoor, all-ages studio is under the big tent.

Pre-registration is required. Dress for dyeing and consider bringing your own rubber gloves (dishwashing variety).

Inside the building, visit HEALING COATS, an exhibition organized by King Comer and featuring wearable art made with local refugees, steering committee members, Call & Response artists, and friends and colleagues from across the country. Each “healing coat” incorporates cultural and personal symbols of healing.
