Registration is closed.

Join in a communal healing workshop with the purpose of introducing mindfulness practice through collage art as a method of awareness, self-expression, and connection with others through shared artmaking. We will engage together in an uplifting space to check in with ourselves, release inner stress, and create unique artworks to express and integrate our emotions, thoughts, and senses in the present moment. We will journal and reflect on our experiences through the visual language of collage and foster acceptance, empathy, and synchronicity by sharing pieces of ourselves with others through expressionistic collage.

Join choreographer and artist-in-residence Daniel Burkholder for an experiential workshop exploring the grounds of the Lynden Sculpture Garden through practices of presence.

From September 2020 through May 2021 Burkholder was on site weekly (1-2+ hours) using various mindfulness and movement exercises to create On-Site: Lynden, a dance-on-video. In this workshop, Burkholder will lead a walk around the grounds, giving participants an opportunity to explore some of these practices themselves. These simple mindfulness exercises focus on developing a greater connection to place, as well as cultivating ease of mind and body. Different exercises will be shared in each of the two workshops; feel free to sign up for either one or for both. Dress comfortably for moving outdoors.

About the Artist
Daniel Burkholder choreographs, improvises, performs, teaches, designs lights for theatrical performances, and practices the Feldenkrais Method and Mindfulness. His choreographic/improvisational work spans theatrical performances, site-specific events, immersive media, and screendance, and has been presented at numerous venues throughout North America and internationally. His current work includes: On-Site, a series of embodied screendance experiments; Embodied Truth: finding ways to move together, a collaboration with Kimani Fowlin examining race and gender through the lens of parenting; and, act/re/act, a podcast exploring improvisation through conversations with remarkable artists. The Lynden is offering a series of professional skill-building workshops as part of the support for local artists we provide through the Nohl Fellowship program. Designed by and for artists, the workshops address frequently voiced needs.

Having an online presence has never been so important for artists. This three-part workshop offers practical information and tools for creating your website whether you are starting from scratch or have a pre-existing site in need of updating. Participants will learn how to prioritize goals for their website, determine potential audiences, and prepare work and other documentation. We will walk through deciding whether to self-design or hire a professional, and we will take a look at the many web host options. Whether your ideal website is one page with highly focused content or a comprehensive archive, the workshop offers dos and don’ts to effectively communicate with your audience.

The final 45 minutes of each session will be divided into three one-on-one sessions with Druecke. Each session will last up to 15 minutes and will help you strategize the best approach for your needs. This is an opportunity to share your current website or website ideas with the instructor for further guidance. All participants are welcome to observe these sessions.

Participants will receive a digital, take-away package of information that recaps workshop content and serves as an ongoing resource for developing and maintaining your website.

About Paul Druecke
Paul Druecke created his first website in 1998 as an extension of his influential “Social Event Archive” (1997 – 2007), which was exhibited at the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2017. The project foreshadowed social media’s now familiar blurring of personal and public history. Andrew Goldstein, writing on Artspace.com, says, “A Social Event Archive is viewed as having prefigured social sites like Instagram by inviting people to give him personal snapshots that he then displayed.” Since those early days of self-taught html coding, Druecke’s website has evolved as an archive of his studio production and interest in reaching new audiences.

Druecke's work was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial. A co-authored discussion of his work is anthologized in Blackwell and Wiley's Companion to Public Art (2016). He received a Greater Milwaukee Foundation Mary L. Nohl Fellowship for Individual Artists in 2010. Druecke has published two books with Green Gallery Press, Life and Death on the Bluffs (2014), and The Last Days of John Budgen Jr. (2010). His work has been featured in Camera Austria and InterReview, and written about in Artforum, Art in America, Artnet.com, and Metropolis.com.

Her artwork is a quirky mix of traditional and found objects, most recently combining computer/electrical components with enamels. She is a charismatic and effective teacher who encourages skill building and exploration of the medium.
