The workshop will begin with an orientation on Thursday, January 6 from 6-8 pm, and will continue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with sessions from 9 am-3 pm, followed by open studio time until 5 pm. This workshop is intended for those with a working knowledge of pastel (intermediate artists in other media are also welcome). The fee is $350 / $315 for Lynden Sculpture Garden members. Space is limited and advance registration is required. To register, visit http://lyndensculpturegarden.org/education/workshops or call 414.446.8481. The Lynden Sculpture Garden is located at 2145 W. Brown Deer Rd., Milwaukee, WI 53217.

This is the first in a series of workshops for adults that will be offered at the Lynden Sculpture Garden. In addition to its docent-led tours and summer camps, the sculpture garden already offers extensive educational programs for children and youth (more information at http://lyndensculpturegarden.org/education ). “We are now ready to offer specialized artist-led programming for adults,” according to Executive Director Polly Morris. “We are planning workshops that serve both professional artists and accomplished amateurs and that make special use of Lynden’s resources, particularly the landscape and the sculpture.”

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This weekend getaway workshop is designed to inspire and rejuvenate—and take your work to the next level. The evening orientation will be devoted to getting your juices flowing with instruction drawn from Colette’s work and process; delving into the concepts underlying landscape painting; and exploring attitudes and approaches towards utilizing the camera. Friday morning the group will head out to photograph on the Lynden grounds and learn how to work creatively from these and other photos you bring along to create pastel paintings that serve your vision while transcending the source images. Throughout the rest of the weekend you will identify and work toward your personal goals as you progress on your pastel paintings under Colette’s guidance. Colette will work on a demonstration painting alongside participants in order to address issues and techniques useful to the class. Sunday will include a morning group critique followed by afternoon work time to make use of the input.

Emphasis will be on furthering your individual goals in a supportive, intimate setting. This in-depth artist-led workshop promises plenty of one-on-one guidance, peer interaction and working time in the studio. Register now for an artistic retreat that will provide high potential for personal aesthetic growth.
