Works in progress

Opening reception: Sunday, July 9, 2017, 3-5 pm

Katy Cowan's new sculptures will begin in the gallery and spill out onto Lynden's grounds, where they will engage with the permanent collection. Cowan references the landscape in the subject and material of her indoor work--wildflowers, wood—and packs the molds of her outdoor bronzes with markers of domestic life and the human body, from ropes to noses. The pieces explore Cowan's persistent interest in the division--or, rather, lack of division--between work and leisure, discovery and boredom. She adopts language and materials that illuminate the complexities of labor, particularly the habits and activities that are--and produce--her "work." A catalogue will be published.
