The spring equinox marks a moment when light and darkness are in balance. On this day, barely a week after the equinox, we will look for changes in the environment that reflect this change in light: is snow melting? Sap running? Are migratory birds returning? With artist Heinz Mack’s works at Lynden as a starting point, we’ll explore how sculptors use the refraction and movement of light in their work, and will build a Hikari no Hako--a Japanese light box--using cardboard, mylar and tracing paper.
