Paul Druecke hosts a reading in conjunction with Inside/Outside: Nancy Popp and Paul Druecke. He will be reading from his second book, Life and Death on the Bluffs, which offers a bird's eye view of 12,000 years of history on the southwest corner of Lake Michigan. Written from multiple perspectives and shifting eras of habitation, the book is an unflinching look at community. Part journal, part history, part existential collage, Life and Death on the Bluffs debuted at the Whitney Biennial in New York City in March 2014. Druecke’s search for human family is anchored by two Milwaukee landmarks—a Native American burial mound and the Marcia Coles Community Room—and draws its inspiration from the cultural landscape and the voices of David Markson, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and W. G. Sebald, among others.

He will be joined by Martha Bergland and Paul G. Hayes, who will read from their recent collaboration, Studying Wisconsin: The Life of Increase Lapham, early chronicler of plants, rocks, rivers, mounds and all things Wisconsin. Lapham is the subject of an entry in Druecke's book.
