International Sculpture Day

April 27, 2019 - 10:00am - 4:00pm

International Sculpture Day, 2018
The Wandering Rocks, sculpture by Tony Smith and cake by Debbie Pagel, #ISDay 2018

Free to members or with admission to the sculpture garden.

We celebrate International Sculpture Day with a cake in the shape of a Henry Moore sculpture by Debbie Pagel of Eat Cake!, The Large Whimsy, a pop-up sculpture by Gary John Gresl, drop-in art and Labyrinth Society of Lynden Sculpture Garden activities.

We also invite you to drop off any unwanted cast iron items (old sinks, tubs, and radiators are perfect) in preparation for Lynden’s first Iron Pour on May 25. The organizers will be on hand during #isday to move these items to the collection point on the tennis court prior to breaking them up (a sight in itself).

Schedule:

10 AM-4 PM: The Large Whimsy
Artist-in-residence Gary John Gresl creates a pop-up sculpture, The Large Whimsy for International Sculpture Day.

12-4 PM: Moore Maquettes with Jeff Boshart
When he went for walks, Henry Moore, like many people, picked up stones, pebbles, shells, and bits of wood. He took these back to his studio and used their shapes and textures to inspire the shapes and textures of his sculptures. Drop in to the studio for International Sculpture Day to join Jeff Boshart in making a small Henry Moore inspired maquette in clay. Bring a few natural objects from the garden or use a collection we’ll have on hand. Younger children should be accompanied by an adult.

2-4 PM: Labyrinth Society of Lynden Sculpture Garden Walk and Seed Planting
Join artist-in-residence and Labyrinth Society of Lynden Sculpture Garden founder Jenna Knapp, along with land managers Kyle Welna and Roberta Kaleta Jr., to walk the site of the labyrinth and plant seeds (weather permitting).

3 PM: Henry Moore cake
After creating incredible cakes in the shape of Barbara Hepworth and Tony Smith sculptures for prior #ISDays, this year Debbie Pagel of Eat Cake! tackles Henry Moore's Two-Piece Reclining Figure No. 9, 1967. At 3 pm we'll cut the cake and eat!
